You will manage the application of technologies and capacity building to help address conservation challenges and gain hands-on experience with fieldwork in the conservation technology arena.

You’ll be responsible for planning and delivering a technical capacity-building programme and impact monitoring initiative. Through your passion for the environment and technology, you will have an eye for new research and opportunities that will benefit our partners. 

High-level job description

The role of the Project Manager is to support the delivery and sustainability of Connected Conservation priority programmes, including:

Enabling digital infrastructure for Protected Areas
You will lead the delivery of a training programme to build human capacity to manage and maintain in-field IT systems for protected areas. You will work with our technology partners to review existing IT training content and curate a conservation-focused course. You’ll work with marketing and local education institutions to recruit new students and inspire interest in this career path through their existing education programmes

New projects as they may arise
We are a small NGO, and the full team is hands-on to help where needed. There are smaller projects or requirements that will arise, where management expertise is needed ad-hoc. For example we have an impact monitoring programme that you will oversee and advance as new work develops and becomes a priority.

In time, growing to also manage: Satellites for Biodiversity Award Programme
CCF and the Airbus Foundation host a programme to equip conservation field teams with high-resolution satellite imagery, funding and GIS and Data Science expertise. Our number of partners is growing, and in the future you will have the opportunity to guide research and manage the assistance of our grant recipients and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Building engagement and developing relationships with partners to understand their requirements and how CCF and our corporate partners can help. Liaising directly with conservation and corporate sustainability teams.
• Communicating with partners and managing deliverables to project milestones.
• Soliciting consultation processes and implementing collaborative feedback.
• Writing and managing concept notes, Statements of Work and Partnership Agreements with clear objectives, deliverables and target outcomes.
• Working with specialists across organisations to define problem statements, use cases and input into solution development.
• Working with our GIS and Data Science specialist to review data collected from fieldwork and help shape insights, reviewing and providing feedback on GIS analysis methods and results.
• Supporting coordination and implementation of capacity-building products and training.
• Quality assurance on deliverables, assessing the value of outputs against briefs and target conservation outcomes.
• Monitoring and evaluation of activities, working with partners to collect and report activities, facts and impacts.
• Supporting the wider team on fundraising, grant proposals, donor relationships and internal strategic activities as needed.
• Maintaining materials and assets on a file server to keep all documentation up-to-date.
• Maintain high collaboration between all team members.

Personal specifications

• Must be resident in South Africa
• 5+ years of experience in a professional environment in a related technology and/or conservation field, with appropriate digital skills.
• Ability to work autonomously, with exceptional project management skills.
• Confidence in networking to build relationships, with excellent interpersonal skills.
• An eye for detail and high standards in execution quality and communications.
• Ability to adapt storytelling in the right tone and language for CCF.
• Preferred: Proven experience with GIS, Remote sensing and training coordination.
